Player moving particles through collision

Hi all, So I am creating a script that will allow the player to move particles based on the speed of the collision. Think running through a dust cloud! Now I some plans for testing, but I figured I would head to the fanastic minds of unity.com first. How intensive would this become? Lets say theres 1000 particles on the screen and the player effects 400 of them constantly. Would this really hit the fps? Thank you!
